Biography Wikipedia: Chief Ayo Adebanjo is a Nigerian born lawyer, politician of the Awolowo school of thought, activist, elder statesman and chieftain of Afenifere (the Pan Yoruba socio-political group first established in the 1950s).

Ayo Adebanjo worked at the Ministry of Health after his secondary education in 1950. It was the first place he worked. After he was sacked from the job, Alhaji Gbadamosi employed him as a clerk in his factory, Ikorodu Trading Company. It was from there that he switched to journalism and started with the Daily Service and it was from the press that he was drafted to the Action Group as the General Secretary.

Pa Ayo Adebanjo later worked with Chief Obafemi Awolowo and remains his ardent supporter till date.

Ayo Adebanjo started his political career as one of those that founded, formed and led the Action Group Youth Wing in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

He was at a time the Assistant Secretary of Egbe Omo Oduduwa in Lagos.

He served as the secretary of the London branch of the Action Group.

“I did not want to build this (Lekki) house because I was over 70 years. Armed robbers attacked me twice when I was living in Surulere and it was based on that my children insisted that we should move out. It was the pressure from my children that made me build my Lekki house. I supervised the construction of all my houses.

“It was my children who encouraged me to build this house; that was how I sold my other properties, took a bank loan and built this.”

Talking about his houses, mansion and properties, Chief Ayo Adebanjo told the Punch in a 2018 interview:

"This property we are in and the one I have in my village are the only properties that I have. I don’t have any house in Victoria Island, Magodo, GRA or Ibadan. I sold the one in Surulere, I sold my mother’s property in Mushin; I sold the landed property Chief Awolowo gave me in Dideolu Estate and in addition, I borrowed money from the bank to complete this one."
