34 Lawyers Arrive Court To Defend Suspected Deborah Samuel's Killers

A total number of thirty-four lawyers defended Bilyaminu Aliyu and Aminu Hukunci, the suspected killers of Deborah Samuel, in court today.

The defense team was led by Prof. Mansur Ibrahim.

Deborah Samuel, a 200-Level Home Economics student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, was lynched by a mob on May 12 over alleged blasphemy.

However, the suspects who were co-students of the deceased were docked at a Sokoto Chief Magistrate’s Court for their alleged participation in the crime.

When asked to take their pleas, they pleaded not guilty to the crime.

Prosecuting Insp Khalil Musa told the court that an investigation was in progress as Deborah’s corpse was still in a morgue at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.

The leader of the defense team, Prof. Mansur Ibrahim then applied for the bail of the suspects on liberal terms, citing constitutional provisions and sections of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law.

The trial judge (name withheld for security reasons), however, reserved the ruling on the bail application and ordered the accused to be remanded at a correctional center.

Back story

Before she was lynched, Deborah was accused of denigrating Islam on a WhatsApp chat platform set up by her coursemates and refused to retract her post after she was asked to pull it down.

A violent street protest followed the arrest of suspects linked to the lynching of Deborah as the protesters demanded their immediate release by security operatives.

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal consequently imposed a 24-hour curfew on Sokoto metropolis on Saturday. He relaxed the curfew on Monday to be observed from dusk to dawn.

I find it most shameful to be part of a country where a group of demonic beasts would descend on an innocent girl for a comment made on a platform, claiming it was blasphemy. I learnt from a source that the animals that ochestrated the mob action that took the lady were trying to have her as girl friend & she said no .they now saw the whatsWhap stupidity as an avenue to deal with her. By the way ,why is police finding it difficult to nail the demons when the video of the national malady went viral? Why can't they revisit the said video clip & use it to track the animals? They aee students of the school & not spirits . There is no way God & satan can be on a stool controlling the country. So-called leaders should note that it's just impossible. Let them sit & iron out the best way to go about the balkanization on the contraption called Nigeria. Socially & economically we are not progressing, the only ones doing so are the criminals in the corridors of power. You are not allowed to serve God freeliy ,if you do a demon would arise to suck the blood off your veins. Idiots are elected or appointed to rule over the learned. Everything has been thrown back to dark ages. Sixty two years after independenc
t we are yet to start. The earlier we tell ourselves the truth the better.
