Abdourahamane Tchiani is a Niger Republic army brigade general and the commander of the Nigerien presidential guard. He joined the Nigerien army in 1984 and studied at the National School of Active Officers in Thiès, Senegal.

He also addressed Niger's global allies, saying the junta would respect all of the country's international commitments, as well as human rights.
