Bio Wiki: Fabian Adibe is an 80-year-old Nigerian star actor known for the following Nollywood movies, Slave Warrior (2012), Ihite Kingdom (2014) and Royal Father's 2 (2014), among over 300 other movies.

He also featured in foreign movies, including “Soweto,” a story about the struggle in South Africa, and “Mr. Johnson,” a Hollywood film.

Chief Fabian Adibe was a staff of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) until he was retrenched on May 25, 1984.

He started acting in primary school and later formed a drama group in Enugu in 1962. His drama group participated in the Commonwealth Arts Festival of 1965 and won. He led Nigeria to the Commonwealth Art Festival in London in 1965. In Festac 77, he was the art director for Nigerian Drama for Festac 77. He built the Lambodo set.

Fabian Adibe came into the limelight in 1985 when he featured in NTA series, 'Things Fall Apart', where he played the role of Ogbuefi Uzowulu and acted alongside Pete Edochie. He was also the art director on "Things Fall Apart". He earned about ₦1,500 for playing Ogbuefi Uzowulu and because he played two roles, he was paid ₦2,000 as an art director on Things Fall Apart, which was a big money as at that time.

After 'Things Fall Apart' which was a TV series, the first movie Fabian Adibe featured in as a professional actor was 'King Jaja of Opobo' in 1993. He was paid ₦30,000 which was a lot of money at that time.

Fabian Adibe Takes A Break From Nollywood

Fabian Adibe stopped acting and took a long break from Nollywood due to what he called 'packaging' by some Nollywood movies marketers and producers who wanted to pay him for 2 movies if he does 3 for them. Moreso, his losing his sight to blindness also contributed to his long absence from the movie Industry.

“I left them (Nollywood) because one of their boys came and told me that they are starting a thing called ‘packaging.’ So I asked him what packaging is, and he said they would give you three scripts.

You will do two and get paid while the other would be for them. Why would you want me to do one for you for free? I said I wouldn’t? I told the boy I would not be part of that packaging.’’

“I have been out of work for 12 years, and then I told one of the Onitsha marketers that Adibe is now blind, and the marketer responded that he is not out to carry around a blind man. So I didn’t leave them because of this blindness, although the blindness started gradually. If I weren’t blind, I would still be doing the film, not for them, but for my first son, who is now an outstanding director in the industry.”

Unfortunately, the doctor was a young man who had just graduated from school. He used an instrument to look into my eyes and said it was a cataract, that in six months, I should come for surgery. So I waited for another six months and decided to visit a bigger hospital where I was told I had glaucoma that had damaged my peripheral vision because I didn’t come early. But I was given some drugs."

In a September 2018 interview, he had told Nigerian Tribune:

"18 years ago I noticed something in my eyes. I felt something burst and retract in my eyes. A doctor told me it was cataract. But after some years, I went to see another doctor, there I was told I had glaucoma. He started giving me medicine, by this time some damages had been done. It got to a point where the doctor told me that it could not be operated upon."
