Biography, Wikipedia: Pete Edochie is a veteran Nigerian born Nollywood actor and broadcaster who is popularly known as Okonkwo in 'Things Fall Apart', an NTA adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s all-time best selling novel.
Pete Edochie who was born on 7 March 1947 in Enugu State, but originally from Anambra State Nigeria, is considered as one of Africa’s most talented and popular veteran actors.
Pete Edochie Broadcasting Career
Pete Edochie started his radio broadcasting career in 1967 at the age of 20 as a junior programmes assistant. He was later elevated to the level of a Director. He was director of programmes, but doubling sometimes as Deputy Managing Director and occasionally acting as Managing Director.
Pete Edochie was a broadcaster for 31 years. He trained professionally as a broadcaster with the BBC and had a distinguished professional career as a broadcaster with the ABS.
Pete Edochie retired as a Director, and in the history of the establishment, he was the youngest man to get to that level. So, by the time he retired, he was still under 60 years, and he had been a Director for 11 years.
Chief Pete Edochie retired from Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) as Director of Programmes in 1998.

Pete Edochie was kidnapped in 2009 by kidnappers in Onitsha, Anambra State and was later released by his abductors unharmed. After his release, Pete Edochie was immediately driven straight to the Government House, Awka, to the warm embrace of the Anambra governor, his family members and other top government officials.
It was reported that Pete Edochie did not pay any ransom before the kidnappers released him.
Speaking about his kidnapping experience, Pete Edochie said in an interview after his release:
"All I know is that I was able to pick a cab that took me to a hotel in Awka.”
“I was very happy that God allowed me to experience this first hand. They told me they had no business kidnapping me at all. First of all they did not touch me, they did not blindfold me. They did not gag me. They did not hack me they did not tie me, and they said I am their father.
“And somehow, that they have managed to hear a lot about me that I am very good to people. That I assist people particularly the downtrodden; That they know all that and you so would not hurt me. I mean they didn’t tie their faces. Nothing. They were discussing with me.
“They bought me some drinks, made sure I did not get alcoholically dry. You know as an individual, if you find yourself in a situation like that under siege, you complicate your situation if you experience internal alcoholic drought. So, by the grace of God they were lubricating my system for me and at the same time encouraging me to feel the pulse of their heartbeat."

He said he was in his second year in junior high school when the incident happened.
Yul Edochie said he told his father to set up an electrical shop for him and cancel his education, and according to him, he was locked up in his father’s room and was given a ‘beating which reset his brain to factory setting’.

In September 2010, Veteran Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs have responded to Pete Edochie’s claim that he (Olu Jacobs) destroys the Igbo culture the way he plays the role of Igwe in traditional films. Olu Jacobs response was part of a lengthy interview where he was asked to share his opinion regarding Pete’s statement.
"I’m surprised Peter can say that. Olu Jacobs is an actor; he’s a fine actor, he’s the best analyzer of character and the best manipulator of words. Pete Edochie again sparked another controversy on social media when he spoke against feminism. He said:
"Feminism isn’t something black people are known for. Once a woman leaves her parents to meet her husband and takes his surname, she is to be submissive to him. If she wasn’t married, she can do whatever she wants.
"Women walk and show off their behinds, it’s so that men would find them. If you see such a woman and express your marriage interest, then she starts walking properly. Our women now plunge into feminism nowadays."
“They can’t even keep their husbands anymore. Is that a good thing? These women are schooled but a lot of wives now can’t even cook — one thing that a woman should be good in so as to be able to keep her husband.
My mother was not educated but she would cook all sorts of soups, including bitter leaf, Oha, Ogbono, Okro, Egusi, Ukwa, and what have you. My father would always get back home hurriedly to eat what his wife had cooked."

He continued, “To be honest, the understanding of women is low. I’m not a misogynist but I’ve associated with them a lot, even at work. Feminism has no place in our culture. We don’t worship women as the whites do.
“In the west, women could join forces and accuse a male colleague of assault. The man resigns. This can’t happen in our culture. As a young woman, if pedestrians don’t admire you, you’d weep for fear of not being beautiful."

It wasn’t like that in our days. How women talk to men nowadays isn’t how we were raised. My mother was never beaten. My wife and I have been married for 52 years. I never beat her. My five married sons don’t beat their wives.”
Pete Edochie Advice To Married Women To Put Condoms In Their Cheating Husbands' Suitcase
Social media users bashed Pete Edochie for his submission and said such advice can only come from a professional cheat.
In the video that had gone viral on the internet, the 74-year-old Pete Edochie was heard telling married women to always put a pack of condom in their husband’s suitcase anytime he’s travelling.
Nigerians on Instagram and Twitter had dragged and disgraced veteran actor, Pete Edochie over the piece of advice he gave married women with cheating husbands.
The video had triggered the anger of many social media users and they thought the movie maker is telling women to keep up with whatever bad thing their husband does for the sake of their marriage.

Pete Edochie Accused Of Being A Wife Beater And Chronic Cheat
Veteran Nigerian actor Pete Edochie had been accused of being an abusive and cheating husband by an individual alleged to be a friend of his family.
The family friend, identified on twitter as @chydec claimed that he has evidence to prove that Pete Edochie beats his wife and cheats on her with various women because he is a celebrity.
He alleged that Pete was so abusive to the extent that his sons got involved and he also cheated with several slay queens until he got old and weak.
This comes few days after Pete echoed that women are to be blamed for husbands cheating and endorsing infidelity in the process.
Meanwhile, Pete Edochie says he never bear his wife, Josephine Edochie.

In November 2019, a controversial US-based illustrator, Lotanna Odunze who is popularly known as Sugabelly gave her opinion about the acting prowess of veteran actor, Pete Edochie.
Sugabelly wrote on her Twitter page, “Pete Edochie is a really bad actor. He’s been playing the same role his entire life.
“Acting isn’t quoting proverbs. But Nigerians live and die by seniority, so the older he gets, the less anybody is able to point this glaring elephant in the room out.”
Her audacious statement however triggered diverse reactions on Twitter.
Many of the people who commented on the post said Sugabelly's statements were borne out of ignorance and malice. Some people also dug up Edochie’s past achievements to rubbish her claims.
When Sunday Scoop reached out to Edochie who is considered one of Africa’s most talented actors, to react to Sugabelly’s statement, he said everyone was entitled to their opinion because what mattered to him was that he’s alive, kicking and enjoying himself.

“It doesn’t mean anything to me; it has absolutely nothing to do with me. If you start responding to things that don’t make sense, there is that danger of reducing yourself to the level of that person. I’m mentally occupied 24 hours on a daily basis. I trained formally as a broadcaster and by the grace of God, I happen to be an articulate individual. I don’t have to advertise that, every other person knows that.
“I don’t even see most of these things and I don’t give a damn about it and don’t care. You have a right to express any opinion about me but it doesn’t mean anything to me. I have 13 grandchildren and I have been successfully married for 50 years. I’m living in my own house and comfortable.
